Fire Protection for the Gas Industry (LNG / LPG)
The gas industry, particularly Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), presents significant fire safety challenges. LNG, primarily composed of methane (CH₄), is stored at very low temperatures (around -160°C) in large tanks that can hold tens of thousands of cubic meters. This highly energetic gas requires perfectly adapted protection systems, both during storage and transfer operations.
Overpressures, common during loading or unloading phases, are usually released via pressure relief valves. However, phenomena such as "rollover" can lead to a sudden release of gas and an increased ignition risk, creating what is known as flare stacks.
For such scenarios, Ai Group has developed a specific solution based on the direct injection of GRANITO extinguishing powder into the valve discharge lines, enabling rapid and targeted fire suppression as soon as it appears.
In the case of a tank leak, LNG is directed to a containment basin, where the primary risk becomes the rapid evaporation of the liquid, potentially generating a flammable gas cloud. To address this, our medium or high-expansion foam solutions create an insulating blanket, effectively limiting evaporation and reducing the risk of ignition.
Additionally, GRANITO powder systems provide active protection in the event of ignition in containment basins or other high-risk areas. These systems can also be deployed at other sensitive points on the site: loading arms, low or high-pressure pumps, etc. Depending on the configuration, the powder is dispersed through cannons, nozzles, or fixed networks.
